Richard "Dick" Weaver is a retired professor of speech communication after having taught more than 80,000 students at the University of Massachusetts and Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Michigan and his doctor’s degree from Indiana University. Because of sabbaticals, he has taught at the University of Hawaii and at five universities throughout Australia. He has written over 30 books (includes all editions) and his best selling college textbook, Communicating Effectively (with Saundra Hybels) in it's tenth edition. He has written close to 100 articles, numerous chapters in books, more than a dozen published speeches, and publishes essays every week on his blog.
